Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
पापं कृत्वेव किमिदं मम संश्रुत्य संश्रवम् ।
शेषे क्षितितले सन्नः स्थित्वां स्थातुं त्वमर्हसि ॥ ॥२-१४-२॥
Pāpaṃ kṛtveva kimidaṃ mama saṃśrutya saṃśravam । Śeṣe kṣititale sannaḥ sthitvāṃ sthātuṃ tvamarhasi ॥ ॥2-14-2॥
Translation
Having promised me the boons, why are you lying on the ground, dejected like one who has committed a sin? You ought to stand firm in your integrity (keep your promise).
हिंदी अनुवाद
मुझे प्रतिज्ञा देकर (वचन देकर), अब किसी पापी की भांति तुम पृथ्वी पर निस्तेज होकर क्यों पड़े हो? तुम्हें अपनी मर्यादा (वचन) में स्थित रहना चाहिए।
English Commentary
Kaikeyi employs psychological manipulation here. Instead of showing concern for his health, she attacks his integrity. She asks why he is lying there acting like a sinner (pāpaṃ kṛtveva). In her twisted logic, his hesitation to banish Rama is the sin, not her demand. She urges him to 'stand firm' (sthātuṃ tvamarhasi) in his pledge. She weaponizes the concept of honor, implying that his grief is a sign of weakness and moral failure to uphold his word.

कैकेयी यहाँ 'गैसlighting' का उत्कृष्ट उदाहरण प्रस्तुत करती है। दशरथ पीड़ित हैं, लेकिन कैकेयी उन्हें ही दोषी महसूस करवा रही है। वह पूछती है कि वे 'पापी की भांति' (पापं कृत्वेव) क्यों पड़े हैं? उसका तर्क है कि वचन देकर उसे पूरा न करना ही असली पाप है। वह राजा को भावनात्मक रूप से ब्लैकमेल कर रही है कि यदि वे सत्य पर नहीं टिके, तो वे पापी कहलाएंगे। वह उनकी पीड़ा को नाटक या कमजोरी बताकर खारिज कर रही है।
