स्तुवन्नृपतिशार्दूलं प्रविवेश निवेशनम् ।

English Commentary
Sumantra enters performing his traditional duty: chanting praises (Stuvann) to wake the King. The epithet Nṛpatiśārdūlaṃ (Tiger among kings) contrasts sharply with the broken condition Dasharatha is actually in. Sumantra is described as Vṛddham (old/elderly), signifying wisdom and tenure. The phrase Rājasammatam (approved by the King) explains his unrestricted access. The guards recognize his status and the standing orders (Pūrvoditam) that allow him entry into the most private quarters. He walks in with the confidence of a trusted minister, completely oblivious to the catastrophe that has unfolded overnight regarding Kaikeyi.
