Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
सुमन्त्रः प्राञ्जलिर्भूत्वा तुष्टाव जगतीपतिम् ।
यथा नन्दति तेजस्वी सागरो भास्करोदये ।
प्रीतह् प्रीतेन मनसा तथानन्दघनः स्वतः ॥ ॥२-१४-४७॥
Sumantraḥ prāñjalirbhūtvā tuṣṭāva jagatīpatim । Yathā nandati tejasvī sāgaro bhaskaro daye । Prītaḥ prītena manasā tathānandaghanaḥ svataḥ ॥ ॥2-14-47॥
Translation
"Sumantra, with folded hands, praised the Lord of the Earth: 'Just as the radiant ocean rejoices at the sunrise, may you, with a pleased mind, be filled with joy yourself'.”

"सुमन्त्र ने हाथ जोड़कर पृथ्वी के स्वामी (दशरथ) की स्तुति की: 'जैसे तेजस्वी सूर्य के उदय होने पर समुद्र आनंदित होता है, वैसे ही आप भी प्रसन्न मन से स्वयं आनंदित हों'।"
English Commentary
Sumantra employs a classic metaphor: Dasharatha is the Ocean, and the sunrise (symbolizing the new day/Rama's coronation) is the catalyst for joy. He wishes the King to be Ānandaghanaḥ (dense with bliss/cloud of joy). The imagery of the Sāgara (Ocean) welcoming the Bhāskara (Sun) implies a natural, cosmic order of happiness. Sumantra prays for the King's mind (Manasā) to be pleased (Prītaḥ). The irony is stark: the King is indeed submerged, not in the joy of a rising sun, but in the depths of an abyss of grief caused by Kaikeyi.

सुमन्त्र राजा की तुलना 'सागर' से और आने वाले दिन (या राम के राज्याभिषेक) की तुलना 'सूर्य' से करते हैं। जैसे सूर्योदय समुद्र में ज्वार और उल्लास लाता है, वैसे ही सुमन्त्र कामना करते हैं कि राजा जागें और आनंदित हों। 'आनन्दघनः' (आनंद से भरे हुए) शब्द का प्रयोग यहाँ बहुत मार्मिक है क्योंकि राजा इस समय 'विषाद-घन' (दुख से भरे) हैं। सुमन्त्र का 'प्राञ्जलिर्भूत्वा' (हाथ जोड़ना) उनकी विनयशीलता दर्शाता है। वे राजा के जागने और खुश होने की स्वाभाविक उम्मीद कर रहे हैं, जो वास्तविकता से कोसों दूर है।
