इन्द्रमस्यां तु वेलायामभितुष्टाव मातलिः ॥ ॥२-१४-४८॥
Indramasyāṃ tu velāyāmabhituṣṭāva mātaliḥ ॥ ॥2-14-48॥

"(Sumantra continued:) 'Just as at this time Matali praises Indra...'"

"(सुमन्त्र ने कहा:) 'जैसे इस (प्रातः) बेला में मातलि (इंद्र का सारथी) इंद्र की स्तुति करता है...'"
English Commentary
Sumantra begins a series of comparisons to elevate the occasion. He invokes Matali, the divine charioteer of Indra (the King of Gods). By comparing his waking of Dasharatha to Matali waking Indra, Sumantra equates Dasharatha with the ruler of heaven. This implies that the duties awaiting Dasharatha are of cosmic importance, similar to Indra's duties of maintaining universal order. It reinforces the relationship between the Charioteer/Minister and the King as an intimate, divinely sanctioned bond.

यहाँ से सुमन्त्र उपमाओं (Similes) की एक श्रृंखला शुरू करते हैं। वे अपनी तुलना देवताओं के सारथियों से और दशरथ की तुलना देवताओं से करते हैं। 'मातलि' देवराज इंद्र का सारथी है। सुमन्त्र यह कह रहे हैं कि जैसे स्वर्ग में मातलि इंद्र को जगाकर विजय और कर्तव्य के लिए प्रेरित करता है, वैसे ही मैं (सुमन्त्र) आपको जगा रहा हूँ। यह दशरथ को देवतुल्य स्थान देने का प्रयास है। यह श्लोक दशरथ के यश और अयोध्या के वैभव को स्वर्ग के समकक्ष स्थापित करता है।
