पौरजानपदैश्चापि नैगमैश्च कृताञ्जलिः ।
स्वयं वसिष्ठो भगवान् ब्राह्मणैः सह तिष्टति ॥ ॥२-१४-५५॥
Paurajānapadaiścāpi naigamaiśca kṛtāñjaliḥ । Svayaṃ vasiṣṭho bhagavān brāhmaṇaiḥ saha tiṣṭhati ॥ ॥2-14-55॥
Translation
"With citizens, country-folk, and merchants standing with folded hands, the reverence-worthy Vashistha himself is waiting along with the Brahmins."

"नगर और जनपद के लोग, तथा व्यापारी—सभी हाथ जोड़े खड़े हैं। स्वयं भगवान वशिष्ठ भी ब्राह्मणों के साथ (द्वार पर) प्रतीक्षा कर रहे हैं।"
English Commentary
Sumantra escalates the pressure by naming who is waiting. It is not just the commoners (Paura/Janapada) or the economic guilds (Naigama), but Svayaṃ Vasiṣṭho (Vashistha himself). In the hierarchy of Dharma, the Guru stands above the King. For the Royal Preceptor to be kept waiting is a breach of protocol and etiquette. The image of the entire assembly standing Kṛtāñjaliḥ (with folded palms) paints a picture of devout anticipation. This highlights the massive social weight crushing down on Dasharatha at this moment.

सुमन्त्र राजा को स्थिति की गंभीरता समझा रहे हैं। केवल सामान्य जनता ही नहीं, बल्कि 'नैगम' (व्यापारी वर्ग) और सबसे महत्वपूर्ण 'स्वयं वशिष्ठ' प्रतीक्षा कर रहे हैं। वशिष्ठ राजा के गुरु हैं; उनका इंतज़ार करना राजा के लिए उचित नहीं है। 'कृताञ्जलिः' (हाथ जोड़े हुए) शब्द जनता की भक्ति और उत्सुकता को दर्शाता है। यह दशरथ के लिए एक धर्मसंकट की स्थिति पैदा करता है—बाहर उनका गुरु और प्रजा उनकी राह देख रहे हैं, और भीतर उनकी पत्नी (कैकेयी) ने उन्हें धर्मपाश में बांध रखा है।
