यथा च्न्द्रं विना रात्रिर्यथा गावो विना वृषम् ।
एवं हि भविता राष्ट्रं यत्र राजा न दृश्यते ॥ ॥२-१४-५७॥
Yathā candraṃ vinā rātriryathā gāvo vinā vṛṣam । Evaṃ hi bhavitā rāṣṭraṃ yatra rājā na dṛśyate ॥ ॥2-14-57॥
Translation
"Just as the night is without the moon, just as cows are without a bull, so indeed becomes the nation where the King is not seen."

"जैसे चंद्रमा के बिना रात्रि (अंधकारमय होती है), जैसे सांड (वृष) के बिना गायें (असुरक्षित/निष्फल होती हैं), वैसा ही वह राष्ट्र हो जाता है जहाँ राजा दिखाई नहीं देता।"
English Commentary
Sumantra concludes his plea with powerful imagery. A moonless night is synonymous with darkness and fear; a herd without a bull implies a lack of progeny and protection. Similarly, a nation where the King is invisible (Na Dṛśyate) loses its vitality and direction. Sumantra stresses the visual aspect of kingship—the Darshan. The subjects need to see their King to feel secure. This emphasizes the expectation for Dasharatha to emerge immediately, unaware that the King is physically unable to face his people.

सुमन्त्र अपनी बात पर जोर देते हुए कहते हैं कि राजा का 'दर्शन' (दिखाई देना) ही प्रजा के लिए प्राणवायु है। चंद्रमा के बिना रात्रि भयावह होती है, वैसे ही राजा के बिना राष्ट्र शोभाहीन और असुरक्षित होता है। 'यत्र राजा न दृश्यते'—यह पंक्ति बहुत महत्वपूर्ण है। राजा का कर्तव्य है कि वह प्रतिदिन प्रजा को दर्शन दे। सुमन्त्र को लग रहा है कि राजा केवल आलस्य या नींद के कारण बाहर नहीं आ रहे, इसलिए वे राजा की अनुपस्थिति के दुष्परिणामों का वर्णन कर रहे हैं।
