Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
इति तस्य वचः श्रुत्वा सान्त्वपूर्वमिवार्थवत् ।
अभ्यकीर्यत शोकेन भूय एव महीपतिः ॥ ॥२-१४-५८॥
Iti tasya vacaḥ śrutvā sāntvapūrvamivārthavat । Abhyakīryata śokena bhūya eva mahīpatiḥ ॥ ॥2-14-58॥
Translation
"Hearing those words of his, which seemed soothing and meaningful, the Lord of the Earth was overwhelmed with grief once again."

"उस (सुमन्त्र) के उन वचनों को सुनकर, जो सांत्वनापूर्ण और अर्थयुक्त (मंगलमय) प्रतीत हो रहे थे, राजा (दशरथ) पुनः शोक से घिर गए (व्याप्त हो गए)।"
English Commentary
This verse captures the tragic recoil. Sumantra’s words are described as Sāntvapūrvam (conciliatory/sweet) and Arthavat (full of meaning/sensible). Under normal circumstances, they would cheer the King. However, in this context, they have the opposite effect. Hearing about the readiness of the coronation while knowing it has been cancelled causes Dasharatha to be Abhyakīryata (scattered over/overwhelmed) by grief anew. The praise serves only to highlight his fall from grace and the hopelessness of his situation.

यह श्लोक विरोधाभास (Contrast) पर आधारित है। सुमन्त्र के वचन 'सान्त्वपूर्वम' (मीठे/सांत्वना देने वाले) और 'अर्थवत्' (सारगर्भित) थे, लेकिन उनका प्रभाव उल्टा हुआ। राजा को सुखी करने के बजाय, इन शब्दों ने उन्हें 'भूय एव' (फिर से/और भी अधिक) शोक में डुबो दिया। कारण स्पष्ट है: सुमन्त्र जिस 'मंगल' की बात कर रहे थे, वह अब असंभव हो चुका था। अपनी प्रशंसा और राम के राज्याभिषेक की बात सुनकर दशरथ को अपनी लाचारी का एहसास और तीव्रता से हुआ।
