सत्यं समनुवर्तस्व यदि धर्मे धृता मतिः ।
सफलः स वरो मेऽस्तु वरदो ह्यसि सत्तम ॥ ॥२-१४-८॥
Satyaṃ samanuvartasva yadi dharme dhṛtā matiḥ । Saphalaḥ sa varo me'stu varado hyasi sattama ॥ ॥2-14-8॥
Translation
If your mind is fixed on Dharma, then adhere to Truth. Let that boon of mine be fruitful, for you are indeed the best among the virtuous and the giver of the boon.

यदि तुम्हारी बुद्धि धर्म में लगी है, तो सत्य का पालन करो। मेरा वह वरदान सफल हो, क्योंकि हे सत्पुरुषों में श्रेष्ठ! तुमने ही वर देने की प्रतिज्ञा की थी।
English Commentary
After laying the philosophical groundwork, Kaikeyi strikes. She challenges Dasharatha's self-image. The phrase "If your mind is fixed on Dharma" implies that refusing her would prove he is adharmic. She calls him Varado (giver of boons), locking him into the identity of a benefactor. The demand is simple: make the boon "fruitful" (saphalaḥ). She skillfully equates the morality of the situation solely with the fulfillment of the contract, ignoring the immorality of the request itself.

दार्शनिक भूमिका बाँधने के बाद, कैकेयी सीधे मुद्दे पर आती है। 'सत्तम' (सज्जनों में श्रेष्ठ) सम्बोधन एक व्यंग्य बाण की तरह है—वह चुनौती दे रही है कि यदि तुम वास्तव में श्रेष्ठ हो, तो सिद्ध करो। 'यदि धर्मे धृता मतिः' (यदि धर्म में बुद्धि है) कहकर वह राजा के चरित्र पर प्रश्नचिन्ह लगा रही है। उसका तर्क सीधा है: तुम वरदाता (वरदो) हो, मैंने वर माँगा है; अब इसे पूरा करना ही एकमात्र धर्म है, चाहे उसका परिणाम कितना भी विनाशकारी क्यों न हो।
