Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
वरुणश्चग्निरिन्द्रश्च विजयम् प्रदिशन्तु ते ।
गता भगवती रात्रिरहः शिवमुपस्थितम् ॥२-१५-२३॥
Varuṇaścāgnirindraśca vijayam pradiśantu te । Gatā bhagavatī rātrirahaḥ śivamupasthitam ॥ ॥2-15-23॥
Translation
"May Varuna, Agni, and Indra bestow victory upon you. The divine night has passed, and the auspicious day has arrived."

(सुमन्त्र ने आगे कहा) वरुण, अग्नि और इन्द्र आपको विजय प्रदान करें। पूजनीय रात्रि अब बीत चुकी है और कल्याणकारी दिन उपस्थित हुआ है।
English Commentary
Sumantra continues his invocation with Varuna, Agni, and Indra—vedic deities associated with cosmic order, sacrifice, and sovereignty. He announces the break of dawn, referring to the night as Bhagavati (divine/revered), acknowledging its role in providing rest, but urging the King to rise for the Shivam (auspicious) day. Contextually, Sumantra believes this day is auspicious because of the planned coronation. He uses the word Vijayam (victory), a standard greeting for kings (Jaya), unaware that this day brings the King's greatest defeat. The phrase "the night has passed" is metaphorically heavy; for Dasharatha, the night of torment has physically passed, but the darkness of his impending separation from Rama is just beginning. The optimism in Sumantra's voice sharpens the tragedy of the situation.

इस श्लोक में सुमन्त्र वरुण (जल के देवता), अग्नि (तेज के देवता) और इन्द्र (देवराज और शक्ति के प्रतीक) से राजा की विजय की कामना करते हैं। 'गता भगवती रात्रि'—रात्रि को 'भगवती' या देवी कहा गया है क्योंकि वह विश्राम देती है, किन्तु अब सुमन्त्र राजा को सचेत कर रहे हैं कि वह समय बीत गया है। 'अहः शिवमुपस्थितम्'—का अर्थ है कि मंगलकारी दिन आ गया है। सुमन्त्र के मन में राम के राज्याभिषेक का उत्साह है, इसलिए उन्हें यह दिन अत्यंत 'शिव' (कल्याणकारी) लग रहा है। परन्तु दशरथ के लिए यह वही दिन है जब उन्हें अपने प्राणप्रिय पुत्र को वन भेजना होगा। यहाँ 'विजय' शब्द का प्रयोग भी महत्वपूर्ण है; सुमन्त्र बाहरी विजय की बात कर रहे हैं, जबकि दशरथ भीतर ही भीतर एक धर्म-संकट का युद्ध हार रहे हैं।
