दर्शनम् प्रतिकाङ्क्षन्ते प्रतिबुद्ध्यस्व राघव ।
स्तुवन्तं तम् तदा सूतं सुमन्त्रं मन्त्रकोविदम् ॥२-१५-२५॥
Darśanam pratikāṅkṣante pratibuddhyasva Rāghava । Stuvantaṃ taṃ tadā sūtaṃ Sumantraṃ mantrakovidam ॥ ॥2-15-25॥
Translation
"They are eagerly waiting for your audience; therefore, wake up, O Raghava." Then the King heard the charioteer Sumantra, who was an expert in speech and counsel, praising him thus.

"वे सब आपके दर्शन की अभिलाषा रखते हैं, अतः हे राघव! आप जाग जाइये।" तब मन्त्रों (और नीति) के ज्ञानी उस सूत सुमन्त्र को इस प्रकार स्तुति करते हुए राजा ने सुना।
English Commentary
The phrase mantrakovidam describes Sumantra as one skilled in mantras (counsel/speech). He knows the precise words to encourage and respectfully wake a monarch. He urges the King to grant the darshan (sight/audience) that the people crave. The verse shifts focus to the King receiving this input. Dasharatha hears the praise, but the context transforms the praise into a painful reminder. A "skilled counselor" usually alleviates a king's burden, but here, Sumantra's innocent urging adds to the King's psychological weight. It marks the transition moment where the King must physically wake up from his night of despair to face the messenger of the morning. The repetition of "wake up" (pratibuddhyasva) underscores the urgency of the situation outside the palace walls.
