किमिदं कारणम् येन ममाज्ञा प्रतिहन्यते ।
न चैव सम्प्रसुप्तोऽहमानयहेऽहाशु राघवम् ॥२-१५-२७॥
Kimidaṃ kāraṇam yena mamājñā pratihanyate । Na caiva samprasupto'hamānayehāśu Rāghavam ॥ ॥2-15-27॥
Translation
"What is the reason that my command is being obstructed? I am certainly not asleep. Bring Raghava here immediately."

"क्या कारण है कि मेरी आज्ञा का पालन नहीं हो रहा है (या रोका जा रहा है)? मैं सोया हुआ नहीं हूँ। राघव (राम) को शीघ्र यहाँ ले आओ।"
English Commentary
Dasharatha snaps at Sumantra, displaying a rare flash of impatience. "Why is my command obstructed?" implies he feels power is slipping away from him, or he fears that the delay will prolong his agony. His declaration, "I am not asleep," carries a double meaning. Literally, he is awake to give orders. Metaphorically, he is painfully alert to the tragedy unfolding; he is not in the blissful ignorance of sleep that Sumantra assumed. The command to bring Rama "immediately" (aashu) stems from a fear that time is running out—perhaps he fears his own death, or he wants to resolve the terrible tension created by Kaikeyi's boons. It is the desperate cry of a King who knows he has lost control of his kingdom's future.

इस श्लोक में राजा दशरथ का क्रोध और व्याकुलता प्रकट होती है। सुमन्त्र संभवतः राजा की स्थिति देखकर या कैकेयी की उपस्थिति के कारण ठिठक रहे थे, या शायद राम को लाने में विलंब हो रहा था। राजा को लगता है कि उनकी आज्ञा की अवहेलना हो रही है। 'न चैव सम्प्रसुप्तोऽहम्' (मैं सोया नहीं हूँ) एक अत्यंत मार्मिक कथन है। शारीरिक रूप से वे शय्या पर हो सकते हैं, किन्तु मानसिक रूप से वे पूरी रात जागे हैं और पीड़ा में हैं। वे अपनी सत्ता का प्रयोग करके राम को तुरंत बुलाना चाहते हैं। यह उनकी लाचारी का भी प्रतीक है—जो राजा तीनों लोकों में सम्मानित था, आज उसे अपने ही महल में अपनी आज्ञा पालन करवाने के लिए जोर देना पड़ रहा है। वे समय गंवाना नहीं चाहते।
