हृष्टः प्रमुदितः सूतो जगामाशु विलोकयन् ।
स सूतस्तत्र शुश्राव रामाधिकरणाः कथाः ॥२-१५-३०॥
Hṛṣṭaḥ pramuditaḥ sūto jagāmāśu vilokayan । Sa sūtastatra śuśrāva Rāmādhikaraṇāḥ kathāḥ ॥ ॥2-15-30॥
Translation
Delighted and filled with joy, the charioteer went quickly, looking around. There, he heard conversations entirely centered on Rama.

अत्यंत हर्षित और आनंदित वह सूत (सुमन्त्र) शोभा देखते हुए शीघ्रता से आगे बढ़ा। वहाँ उस सूत ने राम से सम्बन्धित (रामाधिकरणाः) कथाएं (चर्चाएँ) सुनीं।
English Commentary
Sumantra acts as a barometer for the city's mood. He is described as hrishta (thrilled) and pramudita (joyous). As he hurries to fetch Rama, he overhears the citizens. Their conversations are exclusively Ramadhikaranah kathah—stories/topics based on Rama. This reinforces Rama as the central figure of the kingdom's consciousness. The sheer unanimity of the public's focus on Rama validates why his exile will be a collective trauma, not just a personal family dispute. The verse paints a picture of a city united in love for their prince, oblivious to the coup that has occurred overnight. Sumantra walks through this wave of adoration, carrying the summons that will ultimately dismantle their hopes.

सुमन्त्र की मानसिक स्थिति का वर्णन 'हृष्टः प्रमुदितः' (रोमांचित और अत्यंत खुश) शब्दों से किया गया है। वह शीघ्रता से राम के भवन की ओर जा रहे हैं। रास्ते में उन्हें नागरिक आपस में बातें करते हुए सुनाई देते हैं। उन सबकी बातों का विषय केवल 'राम' हैं। यह दर्शाता है कि राम प्रजा के हृदय में बसते थे। हर कोई आने वाले उत्सव की चर्चा कर रहा है। यह श्लोक राम की लोकप्रियता (जन-आधार) को स्थापित करता है। राजा दशरथ के कक्ष के भारी वातावरण से निकलकर सुमन्त्र को बाहर की उन्मुक्त और प्रेमपूर्ण हवा मिल रही है। परन्तु पाठक जानता है कि यह 'रामाधिकरणाः कथाः' (राम सम्बन्धी बातें) शीघ्र ही विलाप में बदलने वाली हैं। सुमन्त्र का हर्ष उस बुलबुले की तरह है जो फूटने वाला है।
