Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
काञ्चनप्रतिमैकाग्रं मणिविद्रुमतोरणम् ।
शारदाभ्रघनप्रख्यं दीप्तं मेरुगुहोपमम् ॥ ॥२-१५-३३॥
Kāñcanapratimaikāgraṃ maṇividrumatoraṇam । Śāradābhraghanaprakhyaṃ dīptaṃ meruguhopamam ॥ ॥2-15-33॥
Translation
The summits of the palace were adorned with golden statues, and its arches were encrusted with gems and coral. It shone brilliantly like the autumn clouds and glowed like the radiant caves of Mount Meru.
हिंदी अनुवाद
उस भवन के शिखरों पर सोने की प्रतिमाएं सुसज्जित थीं और तोरण (मेहराब) मणियों तथा मूंगे से बने थे। वह भवन शरद ऋतु के मेघों के समान उज्ज्वल और सुमेरु पर्वत की गुफाओं के समान देदीप्यमान था।
English Commentary
The aesthetic description continues with a focus on materials—gold, gems, and coral. The phrase Kancanapratimaikagram indicates that the pinnacles were not just pointed but crowned with artistic golden statues. The simile comparing the palace to "autumn clouds" (Sharad-abhra) suggests a pristine, white brilliance, likely due to white plaster or marble, which contrasts beautifully with the colorful coral and gems of the arches. The comparison to the caves of Mount Meru is significant; in Hindu cosmology, Meru is the axis mundi, gold-laden and self-luminous.
