Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
उपादाय समाक्रान्तैस्तथा जानपदैर्जनैः ।
रामाभिषेकसुमुखैरुन्मुखैः समलम्कृतम् ॥ ॥२-१५-३९॥
Upādāya samākrāntaistathā jānapadairjanaiḥ । Rāmābhiṣekasumukhairunmukhaiḥ samalamkṛtam ॥ ॥2-15-39॥
Translation
It was graced by people from the countryside who had crowded in bearing gifts. Their faces were radiant with joy for Rama’s coronation, and they looked upwards (towards the palace) in anticipation.

वह स्थान ग्रामीण (जानपद) लोगों से भरा हुआ था जो उपहार लेकर आए थे। राम के राज्याभिषेक की उत्सुकता में उनके चेहरे खिले हुए थे और वे (दर्शन हेतु) ऊपर की ओर देख रहे थे।
English Commentary
This verse highlights the demographic reach of Rama's popularity. The term Janapada refers to the rural citizenry, distinct from the urban dwellers (Pura-vasi). That villagers have traveled to the capital bearing gifts (Upadaya) signifies deep loyalty and personal connection to the prince. Their faces are described as Sumukha (happy/bright-faced) specifically because of the impending coronation (Rama-abhisheka). The posture of being Unmukha (looking up) creates a vivid image of the masses gazing at the high balconies of the palace, waiting for Rama to appear. It captures the collective hope and jubilation of the nation before the tragic turn of events.
