Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
लक्षयित्वा ह्यभिप्रायम् प्रियकामा सुदक्षिणा ।
संचोदयति राजानम् मदर्थम् मदिरेक्षणा ॥ ॥२-१६-१६॥
Lakṣayitvā hyabhiprāyam priyakāmā sudakṣiṇa । Saṃcodayati rājānam madartham madirekṣaṇā ॥ ॥2-16-16॥
Translation
"Understanding the King's intent, that intoxicating-eyed (Kaikeyi), who is skilled and desires my pleasure, is urging the King for my sake."
हिंदी अनुवाद
"राजा के अभिप्राय को जानकर, मेरा हित चाहने वाली, चतुर और सुंदर नेत्रों वाली (कैकेयी) मेरे लिए ही राजा को (अभिषेक हेतु) प्रेरित कर रही हैं।"
English Commentary
Rama projects his own love onto Kaikeyi. He describes her as Priyakama (desiring his good) and Sudakshina (amiable/skilled). He assumes that realizing the King's intent, she is Samcodayati (urging/pressing) the King to hurry up the process for Madartham (Rama's sake). He interprets the urgency of the summons as Kaikeyi's enthusiasm for his success. Calling her Madirekshana (having beautiful/intoxicating eyes) shows his deep affection for his stepmother.

राम का भ्रम यहाँ और गहरा होता है। वे सोचते हैं कि कैकेयी 'प्रियकामा' (मेरा प्रिय चाहने वाली) हैं और वे राजा को 'संचोदयति' (जल्दी करने के लिए प्रेरित) कर रही हैं। वे कैकेयी को 'सुदक्षिणा' (कुशल/उदार) और 'मदिरेक्षणा' (मदहोश आँखों वाली/सुंदर) कहते हैं। राम को लगता है कि कैकेयी चाहती हैं कि शुभ कार्य में देरी न हो। विडंबना यह है कि कैकेयी राजा को प्रेरित तो कर रही हैं, पर राम के वनवास के लिए, राज्याभिषेक के लिए नहीं।
