अथ सीतामनुज्ञाप्य कृतकौतुकमङ्गलः ।
निश्चक्राम सुमन्त्रेण सह रामो निवेशनात् ॥ ॥२-१६-२५॥
Atha sītāmanujñāpya kṛtakautukamangalaḥ । Niścakrāma sumantreṇa saha rāmo niveśanāt ॥ ॥2-16-25॥
Translation
Then, taking leave of Sita and having performed the auspicious rites (adorned with wedding threads/marks), Rama exited the palace residence along with Sumantra.

तदनंतर, सीता से अनुमति लेकर और मंगल कृत्य (तिलक आदि) करवाकर, श्रीराम सुमन्त्र के साथ अपने भवन से बाहर निकले।
English Commentary
The phrase sītāmanujñāpya (having taken leave/permission of Sita) underscores Rama's humility and the high regard he holds for his wife. Despite being the superior in the relationship hierarchy of the time, he values her consent. Kṛtakautukamangalaḥ implies he was adorned with auspicious protective threads and marks suitable for the occasion. Leaving with Sumantra, the royal minister, signifies the official nature of his movement. This verse marks the transition from the intimate safety of his home to the turbulent political stage outside.

'सीतामनुज्ञाप्य' (सीता से आज्ञा लेकर) शब्द श्रीराम की विनम्रता और सीता के प्रति उनके सम्मान को पुनः रेखांकित करता है। यद्यपि वे पति हैं, फिर भी वे जाने से पूर्व पत्नी की सहमति को महत्व देते हैं। 'कृतकौतुकमङ्गलः' का अर्थ है कि उन्होंने वे सभी मांगलिक धागे या तिलक धारण किए हुए थे जो शुभ कार्यों से पहले लगाए जाते हैं। सुमन्त्र का साथ होना यह दर्शाता है कि यह यात्रा आधिकारिक और राजसी थी। यह श्लोक अंतपुर से बाहरी दुनिया में प्रवेश का संक्रांति बिंदु (transition point) है।
