Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
अथ मध्यमकक्ष्यायाम् समागच्छत् सुहृज्जनैः ।
स सर्वान् अर्थिनो दृष्ट्वा समेत्य प्रतिनन्द्य च ॥ ॥२-१६-२७॥
Atha madhyamakakṣyāyām samāgacchat suhṛjjanaiḥ । Sa sarvān arthino dṛṣṭvā sametya pratinandya ca ॥ ॥2-16-27॥
Translation
Then, in the middle courtyard, he met with his friends. Seeing all the petitioners gathered there, he approached them and greeted them in return.

फिर मध्यम कक्षा (बीच के आंगन) में वे अपने मित्रों से मिले। वहां उपस्थित सभी याचकों (अर्थیوں) को देखकर वे उनके पास गए और उनका अभिनंदन किया।
English Commentary
This verse highlights Rama’s accessibility and distinct lack of arrogance. Despite the urgency of the summons and his high status, he does not ignore the people waiting for him. He meets his friends in the middle courtyard. Significantly, upon seeing petitioners (arthinaḥ), he approaches them (sametya) rather than waiting for them to come to him, and greets them warmly. This personal touch and respect for even the common seeker demonstrate why Rama was so beloved by his subjects; he remained connected to the people regardless of his elevation.

यह श्लोक श्रीराम की जन-सुलभता (accessibility) और सौजन्य को दर्शाता है। युवराज होने के बावजूद, और जल्दबाजी में होने पर भी, वे अपने मित्रों और याचकों की उपेक्षा नहीं करते। 'समेत्य' (पास जाकर) शब्द महत्वपूर्ण है—श्रीराम केवल दूर से हाथ नहीं हिलाते, बल्कि स्वयं उनके पास जाते हैं। वे 'अर्थियों' (याचकों) का भी सम्मान करते हैं। एक सच्चे नेता का गुण यही है कि वह अपने पद के अहंकार में सामान्य जनों को न भूले। श्रीराम का यह व्यवहार उन्हें प्रजा का प्रिय बनाता है।
