Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
मेघनादमसम्बाधम् मणिहेमविभूशितम् ।
मुष्णन्तम् इव चक्षूम्षि प्रभया हेम वर्चसम् ॥ ॥२-१६-२९॥
Meghanādamasambādham maṇihemavibhūśitam । Muṣṇantam iva cakṣūmṣi prabhayā hema varcasam ॥ ॥2-16-29॥
Translation
That chariot rumbled like thunder, was unobstructed in its movement, adorned with gems and gold, and seemed to steal the sight (blind the eyes) with its golden radiance.

वह रथ मेघ के समान गंभीर गर्जना करने वाला था, कहीं भी न अटकने वाला (बाधारहित) था, मणियों और सोने से सजा हुआ था, और अपनी सुवर्ण-कान्ति से आँखों को चौंधिया रहा था।
English Commentary
The grandeur of the chariot is further detailed to heighten the sense of occasion. Meghanādam (sounding like thunder) suggests power and an imposing presence. Asambādham implies it was mechanically perfect, capable of moving without obstruction. The radiance of the gold and gems was so intense it was 'stealing the eyes' (blinding). This description serves a narrative purpose: by establishing the peak of material luxury and power Rama currently commands, the poet magnifies the magnitude of his impending renunciation.

रथ की भव्यता का और विस्तार से वर्णन किया गया है। 'मेघनादम्' (बादलों सी गर्जना) रथ की गति और शक्ति को दर्शाता है, जिससे शत्रु भयभीत हों। 'असम्बाधम्' का अर्थ है कि वह रथ इतना उत्तम था कि ऊबड़-खाबड़ रास्तों पर भी बिना रुकावट चल सकता था। उसकी चमक इतनी तीव्र थी कि वह 'मुष्णन्तम् इव चक्षूंषि' (आँखों को चुरा लेने वाली/अंधा कर देने वाली) थी। यह वर्णन उस वैभव को स्थापित करता है जिसे श्रीराम कुछ ही पलों में त्यागने वाले हैं। भौतिक ऐश्वर्य की यह चरम सीमा, उनके त्याग की महत्ता को और बढ़ा देती है।
