निकेतान् निर्ययौ श्रीमान् महा अभ्रात् इव चन्द्रमाः ।
चत्र चामर पाणिस् तु लक्ष्मणो राघव अनुजः ॥ ॥२-१६-३२॥
Niketān niryayau śrīmān mahā abhrāt iva candramāḥ । Chatra cāmara pāṇis tu lakṣmaṇo rāghava anujaḥ ॥ ॥2-16-32॥
Translation
The glorious one emerged from his palace like the Moon emerging from a great cloud. Lakshmana, the younger brother of Raghava, stood holding the parasol and fly-whisk.
हिंदी अनुवाद
जैसे विशाल बादल से चंद्रमा निकलता है, वैसे ही श्रीमान राम अपने भवन से निकले। राघवानुज लक्ष्मण हाथ में छत्र और चंवर लिए (सेवा में) उपस्थित थे।
English Commentary
Rama is compared to the Moon emerging from a cloud, emphasizing his soothing and delightful presence that captivates the eyes of the beholders. The verse highlights Lakshmana's total devotion; despite being a prince himself, he holds the Chatra (royal umbrella) and Chamara (fly-whisk), acting as a personal attendant. This act defines Lakshmana’s character throughout the epic—he finds his glory solely in the service of his elder brother. It is a visual representation of Dasya Bhava (devotion of a servant).

यहाँ श्रीराम की तुलना 'चंद्रमा' से की गई है, जो शीतलता और प्रियता का प्रतीक है। लक्ष्मण जी का चित्रण एक आदर्श सेवक और भाई के रूप में है। यद्यपि वे स्वयं राजकुमार हैं, फिर भी उन्होंने 'छत्र' (राजसी छाता) और 'चामर' (मक्खी उड़ाने वाला पंखा) धारण किया हुआ है। यह दर्शाता है कि लक्ष्मण के लिए श्रीराम की सेवा किसी भी राजपद से बड़ी है। यह दृश्य भाइयों के बीच के पदानुक्रम (hierarchy) और प्रेम को स्पष्ट करता है।
