Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
शुश्राव राजमार्गस्थः प्रिया वाच उदाहृताः ।
स राघवः तत्र कथा प्रलापम् ।
शुश्राव लोकस्य समागतस्य ।
आत्म अधिकारा विविधाः च वाचः ।
प्रहृष्ट रूपस्य पुरे जनस्य ॥ ॥२-१६-४३॥
Śuśrāva rājamārgasthaḥ priyā vāca udāhṛtāḥ । Sa rāghavaḥ tatra kathā pralāpam । Śuśrāva lokasya samāgatasya । Ātma adhikārā vividhāḥ ca vācaḥ । Prahṛṣṭa rūpasya pure janasya ॥ ॥2-16-43॥
Translation
While passing along the royal highway, Raghava heard the pleasant words spoken by the gathered crowds. He listened to the various conversations and stories regarding his own coronation among the delighted people of the city.
हिंदी अनुवाद
राजमार्ग पर चलते हुए राघव (राम) ने वहां एकत्रित और हर्षित नगरवासियों द्वारा कही जा रही प्रिय बातों को सुना। उन्होंने अपने राज्याधिकार (अभिषेक) के संबंध में लोगों की विविध चर्चाएं और बातचीत सुनीं।
English Commentary
This verse highlights Rama's connection with his subjects. Even while riding high on a chariot, he is attentive to the voices of the common people. The term Pralāpam here refers to the excited, overlapping chatter of the crowd rather than incoherent babble. Rama listens to their conversations about his Atma-adhikara (his own coronation rights). It portrays the quality of an ideal ruler who remains grounded and attentive to public sentiment. The joy of the people serves as a validation of his legitimacy and fitness for the throne.

यह श्लोक श्रीराम की प्रजा-वत्सलता और उनके 'लोक-संग्रह' (जनता से जुड़ाव) को दर्शाता है। रथ पर सवार होने के बावजूद, श्रीराम जनसामान्य की आवाजों से कटे हुए नहीं हैं। 'प्रलापम्' शब्द यहाँ नकारात्मक अर्थ में नहीं, बल्कि लोगों की उत्साहपूर्ण और अव्यवस्थित बातचीत के लिए प्रयुक्त हुआ है। श्रीराम ध्यानपूर्वक सुन रहे हैं कि प्रजा उनके अभिषेक के बारे में क्या सोच रही है। यह एक अच्छे शासक का लक्षण है कि वह अपनी प्रशंसा और आलोचना, दोनों के प्रति सजग रहे। जनता का 'प्रहृष्ट रूप' (हर्षित चेहरा) श्रीराम के लिए सबसे बड़ा आशीर्वाद है।
