स रामः रथम् आस्थाय सम्प्रह्Rष्ट सुह्Rज् जनः ।
पताकाध्वजसंपन्नं महार्हगुरुधूपितम् ॥ ॥२-१७-१॥
Sa rāmaḥ ratham āsthāya samprahṛṣṭa suhṛj janaḥ । Patākādhvajasampannam mahārhagurudhūpitam ॥ ॥2-17-1॥
Translation
Seated on the chariot, with his friends delighting around him, Rama saw [the city] adorned with flags and banners, and scented with highly valuable Aguru incense.

अपने मित्रों को हर्षित करते हुए, रथ पर सवार राम ने (नगर को) देखा, जो पताकाओं और ध्वजों से सजा था और बहुमूल्य अगरु की धूप से सुगंधित था।
English Commentary
This marks the beginning of Canto 17. The focus shifts to the sensory details of the city decorations. The visual of fluttering Pataka (pennants) and Dhvaja (flags) is complemented by the olfactory detail of Maharhagurudhupitam—the air filled with the smoke of expensive aloe (Aguru) incense. This indicates that the citizens spared no expense for the celebration. Rama is surrounded by happy friends (suhṛj janaḥ), emphasizing his sociability and the collective joy of his inner circle.

यहाँ से सत्रहवां सर्ग (Canto 17) प्रारंभ होता है। राम के साथ उनके 'सुहृज्जन' (मित्र) हैं जो अत्यंत प्रसन्न हैं। नगर सजावट का वर्णन है—'पताका' (छोटी झंडियां) और 'ध्वज' (बड़े झंडे) फहरा रहे हैं। 'महार्हगुरुधूपितम्' का अर्थ है कि वातावरण में बहुत ही कीमती (महार्ह) अगरु की धूप का धुआं है। यह गंध न केवल सुगंधित है, बल्कि पवित्रता और उत्सव का प्रतीक है। राम का मन प्रसन्न है, और वे अपने मित्रों के साथ इस क्षण को साझा कर रहे हैं।
