Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
ततः सुखतरम् सर्वे रामे वत्स्याम राजनि ।
अलमद्य हि भुक्तेन परम अर्थैः अलम् च नः ॥२-१७-१०॥
Tataḥ sukhataram sarve rāme vatsyāma rājani । Alam adya hi bhuktena parama arthaiḥ alam ca naḥ ॥ ॥2-17-10॥
Translation
"When Rama becomes King, we shall live even more happily. Today, we have no need for food, nor do we have use for other great objects or wealth."
हिंदी अनुवाद
(प्रजा आपस में कहती है) "राम के राजा होने पर हम सब और अधिक सुखी होंगे। आज हमें भोजन की आवश्यकता नहीं है और न ही किसी अन्य बड़े प्रयोजन (धन आदि) की ही इच्छा है (राम का अभिषेक देखना ही हमारे लिए पर्याप्त है)।"
English Commentary
This verse represents the pinnacle of the citizens' devotion. When the heart is filled with intense love for a beloved leader, physical needs like hunger or desire for wealth vanish. The citizens declare they have no need for food or luxury today; witnessing Rama's coronation is their sole sustenance. This highlights the magnetic and spiritual quality of Rama’s personality. His mere presence provides such deep satisfaction (tripti) to the people that material wants become irrelevant. It suggests that the greatest happiness for the subjects lies in the righteousness and presence of their King, surpassing all worldly comforts.
हिंदी टीका
यह श्लोक अयोध्यावासियों के अनन्य प्रेम और भक्ति की पराकाष्ठा है। जब मन में किसी प्रिय के प्रति अगाध प्रेम उमड़ता है, तो भूख-प्यास और भौतिक सुख तुच्छ हो जाते हैं। प्रजा कह रही है कि 'अलमद्य हि भुक्तेन' (आज भोजन से बस हो गया, यानी नहीं चाहिए)। उनके लिए राम का राज्याभिषेक देखना ही सबसे बड़ा 'परमार्थ' (लक्ष्य) बन गया है। यह दर्शाता है कि राम का व्यक्तित्व इतना चुंबकीय और धर्ममय था कि उनके सान्निध्य मात्र से प्रजा को पूर्ण संतोष (तृप्ति) का अनुभव होता था। जहाँ राम हैं, वहाँ अभाव का अनुभव नहीं होता।
