Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
आत्म सम्पूजनीः शृण्वन् ययौ रामः महा पथम् ।
न हि तस्मान् मनः कश्चिच् चक्षुषी वा नर उत्तमात् ॥२-१७-१३॥
Ātma sampūjanīḥ śṛṇvan yayau rāmaḥ mahā patham । Na hi tasmān manaḥ kaścic cakṣuṣī vā nara uttamāt ॥ ॥2-17-13॥
Translation
Hearing these praises of himself, Rama proceeded to the highway. No one could withdraw their mind or their eyes from that Best of Men.
हिंदी अनुवाद
अपनी प्रशंसा (आत्म सम्पूजनीः) सुनते हुए राम राजमार्ग पर आगे बढ़े। उस नरोत्तम (राम) से कोई भी व्यक्ति न अपना मन हटा पाता था और न ही अपनी आँखें।
English Commentary
This verse captures both Rama's equanimity and his captivating presence. Despite hearing praises from all sides, Rama remains grounded, neither distracted nor arrogant, simply acknowledging them as he moves. On the other hand, the citizens are spellbound. They cannot withdraw their eyes (visual focus) or minds (mental focus) from him. The term Nara-uttamāt (Best of Men) is used to justify this attraction; because he is perfect in form and virtue, he naturally monopolizes the senses of the observer. It describes a state of total absorption where the observer becomes lost in the greatness of the observed.

यह श्लोक राम की 'स्थितप्रज्ञता' और 'सौंदर्य' दोनों को दर्शाता है। यद्यपि चारों ओर उनकी जय-जयकार हो रही है, राम विचलित या अहंकारी नहीं होते; वे शांत भाव से 'सुनते हुए' आगे बढ़ते हैं। दूसरी ओर, प्रजा की स्थिति ऐसी है कि वे राम से दृष्टि नहीं हटा पा रहे। 'नरोत्तम' शब्द का प्रयोग जानबूझकर किया गया है—वे मनुष्यों में श्रेष्ठ हैं, इसलिए वे आंखों (दृश्य) और मन (चिंतन) दोनों को बाँध लेते हैं। यह दैवीय आकर्षण है, जहाँ भक्त भगवान के स्वरूप में इतना रम जाता है कि उसे अपनी सुध नहीं रहती।
