Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
यथा अर्हम् च अपि सम्पूज्य सर्वान् एव नरान् ययौ ।
पितामहैः आचरितम् तथैव प्रपितामहैः ॥२-१७-८॥
Yathā arham ca api sampūjya sarvān eva narān yayau । Pitāmahaiḥ ācaritam tathaiva prapitāmahaiḥ ॥ ॥2-17-8॥
Translation
Honoring all the people appropriately according to their status, Rama proceeded upon the path that had been trodden by his fathers and forefathers.
हिंदी अनुवाद
श्रीराम ने सभी लोगों का यथायोग्य (जो जिस सम्मान के योग्य थे) सत्कार किया और उसी मार्ग से आगे बढ़े जिसका अनुसरण उनके पिता और प्रपितामहों ने किया था।
English Commentary
This verse beautifully illustrates Rama’s humility and adherence to Maryada (decorum). Even on the verge of his coronation, he does not display arrogance. The phrase "honoring appropriately" implies that he greeted elders with reverence, peers with friendship, and youngsters with blessings. Rama was not merely walking on a physical road, but following the ethical path laid down by his ancestors (the Ikshvaku lineage). He upholds the tradition where the King views the subjects as extended family. It signifies that true leadership involves respecting established traditions and maintaining a deep connection with the people, regardless of one's rising status.

यह श्लोक श्रीराम की विनम्रता और मर्यादा का सुंदर चित्रण है। यद्यपि वे युवराज हैं और उनका राज्याभिषेक होने वाला है, फिर भी उनके व्यवहार में अहंकार का लेशमात्र भी नहीं है। 'यथायोग्य सत्कार' का अर्थ है कि उन्होंने वृद्धों को प्रणाम किया, बराबर वालों का अभिनंदन किया और छोटों को आशीर्वाद दिया। वे केवल एक भौतिक मार्ग पर नहीं चल रहे थे, बल्कि 'कुल-परंपरा' के नैतिक मार्ग पर भी चल रहे थे। इक्ष्वाकु वंश के राजा अपनी प्रजा को परिवार मानते थे, और राम उसी 'आचरित' (आचरण किए गए) मार्ग का पालन कर रहे हैं। यह दर्शाता है कि एक सच्चा नेता अपनी जड़ों और परंपराओं को कभी नहीं भूलता, चाहे वह सफलता के किसी भी शिखर पर क्यों न हो।
