Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
कच्चिन् मया न अपराधम् अज्ञानात् येन मे पिता ।
कुपितः तन् मम आचक्ष्व त्वम् चैव एनम् प्रसादय ॥२-१८-११॥
Kaccin mayā na aparādham ajñānāt yena me pitā । Kupitaḥ tan mama ācakṣva tvam caiva enam prasādaya ॥ ॥2-18-11॥
Translation
"Have I committed some offense out of ignorance due to which my father is angry? Tell me the reason, and you alone should propitiate him for me."

"क्या मैंने अज्ञानवश कोई अपराध तो नहीं कर दिया, जिससे पिताजी मुझसे कुपित हैं? आप मुझे वह (कारण) बताइये और आप ही इन्हें प्रसन्न कीजिये।"
English Commentary
This verse is foundational to understanding Rama's greatness. When faced with a crisis, an ordinary person blames others; Rama begins with introspection. He asks, "Did I commit an offense?" acknowledging the possibility of an unconscious error (ajñānāt). He humbly requests Kaikeyi to act as a mediator and pacify the King. The irony is profound: Rama seeks help from the very architect of his misfortune. It highlights his utter lack of suspicion and his pure, guileless nature. He assumes the problem lies within his own conduct, not in a conspiracy against him.

यह श्लोक राम के चरित्र की महानता का आधार है। जब कोई विपत्ति आती है, तो सामान्य मनुष्य दूसरों को दोष देता है, लेकिन राम सबसे पहले 'आत्म-निरीक्षण' (Introspection) करते हैं। वे पूछते हैं—"क्या मुझसे कोई गलती हुई?" वे यह मानते हैं कि अज्ञानतावश (अज्ञानात्) उनसे कोई त्रुटि हो सकती है। वे कैकेयी से मध्यस्थता करने का अनुरोध करते हैं ('एनम् प्रसादय'—इन्हें मनाइए)। विडंबना यह है कि राम उसी व्यक्ति से मदद मांग रहे हैं जो उनके विनाश का कारण बनी है। यह राम की निश्छलता और सरलता को दर्शाता है।
