कच्चित् ते परुषम् किम्चित् अभिमानात् पिता मम ।
उक्तः भवत्या कोपेन यत्र अस्य लुलितम् मनः ॥२-१८-१७॥
Kaccit te paruṣam kimcit abhimānāt pitā mama । Uktaḥ bhavatyā kopena yatra asya lulitam manaḥ ॥ ॥2-18-17॥
Translation
"Have you, out of pride or anger, spoken something harsh to my father, due to which his mind is so agitated?"

"कहीं आपने ही तो अभिमान या क्रोध के कारण मेरे पिता से कोई कठोर बात नहीं कह दी, जिससे इनका मन इतना व्याकुल (लुलित) हो गया है?"
English Commentary
After ruling out himself and other relatives, Rama’s intuition points to the truth. politely but pointedly, he asks Kaikeyi, "Did you say something?" Rama is aware of the King's deep love for Kaikeyi and perhaps her potential for pride or anger (abhimānāt). The phrase lulitam manaḥ (churned/agitated mind) suggests the King is deeply shaken. This question demonstrates Rama’s sharp intellect; while maintaining perfect respect, he correctly identifies the likely source of the disturbance.

अपनी और अन्य परिजनों की संभावनाओं को नकारने के बाद, राम की बुद्धि सही निशाने पर लगती है। वे अत्यंत विनम्रता से, लेकिन स्पष्ट रूप से कैकेयी से पूछते हैं—"क्या आपने कुछ कहा है?" राम जानते हैं कि राजा कैकेयी से बहुत प्रेम करते हैं, और कैकेयी का स्वभाव कभी-कभी उग्र (अभिमान/क्रोध) हो सकता है। 'लुलितम् मनः' (मथा हुआ/विचलित मन) शब्द बताता है कि राजा अंदर से हिल गए हैं। राम का यह प्रश्न उनकी तीक्ष्ण बुद्धि का परिचायक है; वे सम्मान बनाए रखते हुए भी सत्य के बहुत करीब पहुँच गए हैं।
