धर्ममूलमिदम् राम विदितम् च सतामपि ।
तत्सत्यम् न त्यजेद्राजा कुपितस्त्वत्कृते यथा ॥ ॥२-१८-२४॥
dharmamūlamidam rāma viditam ca satāmapi |
tatsatyam na tyajedrājā kupitastvatkṛte yathā ॥2-18-24॥
Translation
O Rama! Truth is the root of Dharma, and this is known to the virtuous. Therefore, let not the King, out of anger (or attachment) regarding you, abandon that Truth.

हे राम! धर्म का मूल 'सत्य' ही है, यह सज्जनों को भी ज्ञात है। इसलिए, तुम्हारे कारण कुपित होकर राजा उस सत्य का त्याग न करें।
English Commentary
Kaikeyi weaponizes the concept of Dharma against Rama. She correctly states that Truth (Satya) is the root of righteousness, a principle Rama holds dear. However, she twists the context by implying that Dasharatha might abandon this Truth because of his attachment to Rama. By framing the King's potential failure to keep his word as being "for Rama's sake," she places the moral burden directly on Rama. She is challenging Rama to prove that he values Dharma and Truth more than his own gain or his father's emotional comfort.

कैकेयी अब अपने स्वार्थ को 'धर्म' का आवरण पहना रही हैं। वह राम को याद दिलाती हैं कि धर्म की नींव सत्य पर टिकी है। वह बहुत चतुराई से कहती हैं कि राजा का मोह (जिसे वह 'कुपित' या क्रोध कह रही हैं) उन्हें सत्य से डिगा सकता है। 'त्वत्कृते' (तुम्हारे कारण) कहकर वह सीधे राम पर जिम्मेदारी डालती हैं कि यदि राजा झूठ बोलते हैं या वचन तोड़ते हैं, तो उसका कारण राम के प्रति राजा का मोह होगा। इस प्रकार वह राम को नैतिक रूप से बाध्य कर रही हैं कि वे अपने पिता को सत्यभ्रष्ट होने से बचाएं।
