यदि तद्वक्ष्यते राजा शुभम् वा यदि वाऽशुभम् ।
करिष्यसि ततः सर्वमाख्यामि पुनस्त्वहम् ॥ ॥२-१८-२५॥
yadi tadvakṣyate rājā śubham vā yadi vā'śubham |
kariṣyasi tataḥ sarvamākhyāmi punastvaham ॥2-18-25॥
Translation
If you will carry out whatever the King says, whether it be pleasant or unpleasant, only then will I tell you everything.
हिंदी अनुवाद
यदि राजा जो भी कहें, चाहे वह शुभ हो या अशुभ, तुम उसे पूरा करोगे, तभी मैं वह सब तुम्हें फिर से बताऊँगी।
English Commentary
Kaikeyi lays a trap by demanding a blind vow. She asks Rama to commit to executing the King's will before he even knows what it is, explicitly mentioning that it could be "good or bad" (shubham va yadi va ashubham). She refuses to speak the King's command until Rama binds himself to obedience. This highlights her tactical cunning; she wants to ensure Rama cannot back out once the horrific nature of the request (exile) is revealed. It forces Rama to stake his honor on blind obedience to his father.

यह श्लोक कैकेयी की निष्ठुरता की पराकाष्ठा है। वह राम से पहले ही 'ब्लैंक चेक' (कोरे कागज पर हस्ताक्षर) मांग रही हैं। वह जानती हैं कि जो वह मांगने वाली हैं वह अत्यंत 'अशुभ' है, इसलिए वह पहले ही राम से प्रतिज्ञा करवा लेना चाहती हैं। वह शर्त रखती हैं कि जब तक राम परिणाम जाने बिना पालन करने का वचन नहीं देते, वह राजा की इच्छा (जो वास्तव में कैकेयी की इच्छा है) प्रकट नहीं करेंगी। यह राम की पितृभक्ति की परीक्षा है और कैकेयी द्वारा बुना गया एक जाल है।
