भरतस्त्वभिषिच्येत यदेतदभिषेचन्म् ।
त्वदर्थे विहितम् राज्ञा तेन सर्वेण राघव ॥२-१८-३६॥
bharatas tvabhiṣicyeta yad etad abhiṣecanam |
tvadarthe vihitam rājñā tena sarveṇa rāghava ॥2-18-36॥
Translation
O Raghava, let Bharata be consecrated with all these preparations that have been arranged by the King for your sake.

हे राघव! तुम्हारे अभिषेक के लिए राजा द्वारा जो यह सारी सामग्री जुटाई गई है, उससे भरत का अभिषेक किया जाए।
English Commentary
This verse highlights the cruel irony of the situation. Kaikeyi demands that the very materials gathered for Rama's coronation—the sacred waters, herbs, and ceremonial items—be used instead to crown Bharata. Addressing him as 'Raghava' (descendant of Raghu), she paradoxically invokes his lineage while dismantling the primogeniture tradition of that very lineage. This creates a sharp juxtaposition: the preparations meant for Rama's glory become the instruments of his dispossession. It reveals Kaikeyi's pragmatic ruthlessness; she wants an immediate transfer of power using the existing momentum, ensuring Bharata ascends the throne without delay.

यह श्लोक स्थिति की विडंबना को दर्शाता है। जो जल, औषधियाँ और मंगल सामग्री राम के राज्याभिषेक के लिए एकत्रित की गई थीं, कैकेयी मांग करती हैं कि उनका उपयोग भरत के लिए हो। 'राघव' संबोधन का प्रयोग यहाँ महत्वपूर्ण है, जो रघुकुल की परंपरा की याद दिलाता है, जबकि कैकेयी उसी कुल की परंपरा (ज्येष्ठ पुत्र का अभिषेक) को तोड़ रही हैं। यह राम के लिए एक गहरा आघात हो सकता था कि उनका उत्सव ही उनके भाई के उत्सव में बदल दिया जाए, परंतु कैकेयी इसे अपने वरदान के आवश्यक अंग के रूप में प्रस्तुत करती हैं। यह दर्शाता है कि वह केवल राम का वनवास नहीं, बल्कि तत्काल सत्ता परिवर्तन चाहती हैं।
