Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
न नूनम् मयि कैकेयि किम्चित् आशम्ससे गुणम् ।
यद् राजानम् अवोचः त्वम् मम ईश्वरतरा सती ॥२-१९-२४॥
na nūnam mayi kaikeyi kimcit āśamsase guṇam |
yad rājānam avocaḥ tvam mama īśvaratarā satī ॥2-19-24॥
Translation
"O Kaikeyi, surely you do not trust any virtue in me, since you spoke to the King, even though you have full authority over me."
हिंदी अनुवाद
"हे कैकेयी! निश्चय ही आप मेरे सद्गुणों पर थोड़ा भी विश्वास नहीं करतीं, इसीलिए आपने राजा से यह बात कही, जबकि आप मुझ पर (राजा से भी) अधिक अधिकार रखती थीं।"
English Commentary
Rama gently chides Kaikeyi, not for the exile, but for her method. He points out her lack of faith in his character (gunam). By involving the King and forcing a boon, she implied that Rama would not have obeyed her otherwise. Rama asserts that she is ishvaratara (having great authority/sovereignty) over him as his mother. Had she simply asked him directly, he would have complied instantly. He regrets that she felt the need to torment the King to achieve something that was readily available through his own filial devotion.
हिंदी टीका
यह श्लोक राम का एक सौम्य उलाहना (Gentle reproach) है। राम कैकेयी से कहते हैं कि उन्होंने राजा को बीच में लाकर व्यर्थ ही इतना बड़ा अनर्थ किया। 'ईश्वरतरा सती' का अर्थ है कि कैकेयी स्वयं राम की स्वामिनी/माता हैं। यदि कैकेयी ने राम से सीधे कहा होता, तो राम राजा के वचन या वरदान की आवश्यकता के बिना ही वन चले जाते। राम को दुख है कि कैकेयी ने उनके प्रेम और त्याग को नहीं पहचाना और सत्ता के खेल (Politics) का सहारा लिया। यह राम के चरित्र की विशालता और कैकेयी की संकीर्णता के बीच के अंतर को स्पष्ट करता है।
