इदम् तु ज्ञातुम् इच्चामि किम् अर्थम् माम् मही पतिः ।
न अभिनन्दति दुर्धर्षो यथा पुरम् अरिम् दमः ॥२-१९-३॥
idam tu jñātum icchāmi kim artham mām mahī patiḥ |
na abhinandati durdharṣo yathā puram arim damaḥ ॥2-19-3॥
Translation
"But I wish to know this: why does the Lord of the Earth, the tamer of enemies and the invincible one, not greet me as before?"
हिंदी अनुवाद
"किन्तु मैं यह जानना चाहता हूँ कि शत्रुओं का दमन करने वाले और किसी से न दबने वाले महाराज आज पहले की भाँति मेरा अभिनन्दन (प्रसन्नता से स्वागत) क्यों नहीं कर रहे हैं?"
English Commentary
After calmly accepting the exile, Rama asks the only question that troubles him. He is not distressed by the loss of the kingdom, but by the lack of affection from his father. He refers to Dasharatha as 'invincible' and 'tamer of enemies,' contrasting the King's usual mighty demeanor with his current broken state. Rama is confused not by the command to go to the forest, but by the King's silence and lack of greeting. He fears that he might have personally displeased his father, showing that his emotional anchor is his relationship with Dasharatha, not the throne.

सब कुछ स्वीकार करने के बाद, राम केवल एक प्रश्न पूछते हैं जो उनकी मानवीय संवेदना को दर्शाता है। उन्हें वन जाने का दुख नहीं है, उन्हें दुख इस बात का है कि उनके पिता उनसे बात क्यों नहीं कर रहे। 'दुर्धर्षो' (जिसका सामना करना कठिन हो) और 'अरिन्दमः' (शत्रुदमन) विशेषणों का प्रयोग करके राम यह याद दिला रहे हैं कि उनके पिता कितने शक्तिशाली हैं, फिर भी आज वे इतने असहाय क्यों हैं? राम को चिंता है कि कहीं उनसे कोई अपराध तो नहीं हो गया जिससे पिता रुष्ट हैं। यह प्रश्न उनके मन में पिता के प्रति प्रेम और सम्मान की गहराई को दिखाता है।
