मन्युर् न च त्वया कार्यो देवि ब्रूहि तव अग्रतः ।
यास्यामि भव सुप्रीता वनम् चीर जटा धरः ॥२-१९-४॥
manyur na ca tvayā kāryo devi brūhi tava agrataḥ |
yāsyāmi bhava suprītā vanam cīra jaṭā dharaḥ ॥2-19-4॥
Translation
"O Queen, do not be indignant. I speak before you: I shall go to the forest wearing matted hair and bark robes. Be well pleased."

"हे देवि! आप (राजा के मौन पर) क्रोध न करें। मैं आपके समक्ष प्रतिज्ञा करता हूँ कि मैं जटा और वल्कल धारण कर वन चला जाऊँगा, आप प्रसन्न हों।"
English Commentary
Perceiving the tension, Rama steps in to reassure Kaikeyi. He fears she might interpret Dasharatha's silence as hesitation or deceit, leading to anger (manyu). Addressing her respectfully as 'Devi' (Queen/Noble Lady), he urges her not to be upset with the King's inability to speak. He validates her demand personally, promising 'before her' (tava agratah) that he will indeed leave for the forest in ascetic garb. By saying 'be well pleased' (bhava suprita), Rama displays extraordinary magnanimity, prioritizing his stepmother's satisfaction and peace of mind over his own rights, effectively executing the order himself to spare his father the pain of pronouncing it.

राम स्थिति को भांप लेते हैं कि राजा का मौन कैकेयी को क्रोधित या आशंकित कर सकता है। इसलिए वह कैकेयी को 'देवि' कहकर संबोधित करते हैं और उन्हें आश्वस्त करते हैं। 'मन्युर् न च त्वया कार्यो' का अर्थ है कि राजा के बोलने का इंतज़ार करके अपना क्रोध न बढ़ाएं। राम स्वयं निर्णय ले रहे हैं। 'भव सुप्रीता' (आप प्रसन्न हों) कहकर राम अपनी सौतेली माँ की खुशी को प्राथमिकता देते हैं, भले ही वह खुशी उनके स्वयं के विनाश में हो। राम यह सुनिश्चित करना चाहते हैं कि घर में कलह न बढ़े और कैकेयी को उनके वचन पर विश्वास हो जाए।
