Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
वाचा मधुरया रामः स्र्वं सम्मानयन् जनम् ।
मातुस्समीपं धीरात्मा प्रविवेश महायशाः ॥ ॥२-१९-३८॥
Vācā madhurayā Rāmaḥ sarvam sammānayan janam |
Mātussamīpam dhīrātmā praviveśa mahāyaśāḥ ॥2-19-38॥
Translation
Speaking sweetly and showing respect to everyone, the courageous and illustrious Rama entered his mother's presence.
हिंदी अनुवाद
वह धीर-स्वभाव और महायशस्वी राम, मधुर वाणी से सभी लोगों का सम्मान करते हुए अपनी माता के समीप प्रविष्ट हुए।
English Commentary
This verse focuses on Rama’s interpersonal conduct under pressure. Despite the turmoil, he speaks with Madhuraya Vacha (sweet speech) and respects everyone he encounters on the way to his mother's chambers. Stress usually strips away social niceties, but not for Rama. He acts as the Dhiratma (steadfast soul). He ensures that his personal crisis does not inconvenience or offend others. This consistency of character—being kind when one has every reason to be angry—is why he is termed Mahayashah (one of great fame). He enters his mother’s presence not as a deposed king seeking pity, but as a dutiful son maintaining the highest standards of etiquette.

राम की महानता इसमें है कि अपने सबसे बुरे समय में भी वे दूसरों के प्रति शिष्टाचार नहीं भूलते। वह 'मधुर वाणी' का प्रयोग कर रहे हैं और रास्ते में मिलने वाले सभी लोगों को 'सम्मान' दे रहे हैं। अक्सर व्यक्ति तनाव में चिड़चिड़ा हो जाता है, लेकिन राम 'धीरात्मा' (धैर्यवान) हैं। कौशल्या के भवन में प्रवेश करते समय उनका व्यवहार इतना सामान्य और सौम्य था कि किसी को आभास भी नहीं हुआ कि कोई प्रलय आने वाला है। 'महायशाः' (महान यशस्वी) विशेषण यह बताता है कि यही वह गुण हैं जिनके कारण राम की कीर्ति तीनों लोकों में फैली है—शक्ति होते हुए भी विनम्रता और दुःख होते हुए भी मधुरता।
