अलीकम् मानसम् तु एकम् हृदयं दहति इव मे ।
स्वयम् यन् न आह माम् राजा भरतस्य अभिषेचनम् ॥२-१९-६॥
alīkam mānasam tu ekam hṛdayam dahati iva me |
svayam yan na āha mām rājā bharatasya abhiṣecanam ॥2-19-6॥
Translation
However, one mental anguish burns my heart as it were: that the King did not himself tell me about the consecration of Bharata.
हिंदी अनुवाद
मेरे मन में केवल एक ही दुख है जो मेरे हृदय को जला सा रहा है, कि राजा ने स्वयं मुझसे भरत के राज्याभिषेक की बात क्यों नहीं कही।
English Commentary
Rama reveals his only source of pain. He is not aggrieved by the loss of the throne, but by the lack of direct communication from his father. The phrase 'burns my heart' (hrdayam dahati) signifies intense emotional hurt. Rama feels misunderstood; he implies that had Dasharatha asked him directly, he would have stepped aside joyfully. He is pained that his father felt the need for secrecy or hesitation, perhaps doubting Rama's willingness to sacrifice for Bharata. This verse highlights Rama's transparency and his hurt at being treated as a political obstacle rather than a compliant son.

राम को राज्य छिन जाने का दुख नहीं है, परन्तु इस बात का गहरा आघात है कि उनके पिता ने उनसे सीधे बात नहीं की। 'दहति इव' (मानो जला रहा हो) का प्रयोग उनकी भावनात्मक पीड़ा को व्यक्त करता है। राम का मानना है कि यदि पिता सीधे आदेश देते, तो उन्हें अधिक प्रसन्नता होती। यह श्लोक राम और भरत के बीच के प्रेम को भी दर्शाता है—राम को भरत के राजा बनने पर आपत्ति नहीं है, बल्कि उन्हें इस बात का मलाल है कि पिता ने यह सोचा कि राम इस निर्णय का विरोध करेंगे। यह राम के पारदर्शिता और प्रेम की अपेक्षा को उजागर करता है।
