किम् पुनर् मनुज इन्द्रेण स्वयम् पित्रा प्रचोदितः ।
तव च प्रिय काम अर्थम् प्रतिज्ञाम् अनुपालयन् ॥२-१९-८॥

tava ca priya kāma artham pratijñām anupālayan ॥2-19-8॥
Translation
How much more so, then, when urged by the Lord of Men, my father himself, in order to please you and to fulfill his promise?

फिर जब स्वयं पिता और नरेद्र (दशरथ) ने आज्ञा दी है, और वह भी आपके (कैकेयी के) प्रिय कार्य और उनकी प्रतिज्ञा पालन के लिए, तो कहना ही क्या है?
English Commentary
Connecting to the previous thought, Rama argues a fortiori: if he would sacrifice everything unasked, how can he possibly refuse when commanded by the King himself? He lists three compelling reasons for his compliance: the authority of the father (pitra), the fulfillment of the vow (pratijnam anupalayan), and crucially, to please Kaikeyi (tava ca priya kama). By explicitly mentioning Kaikeyi's pleasure as a motivation, Rama validates her desire without judgment. He transforms the exile from a political maneuvering into an act of filial obedience and familial service, showing he holds no grudge against her for demanding it.

पिछले श्लोक में राम ने कहा था कि वे बिना मांगे सब दे सकते थे। अब वे कहते हैं कि जब स्वयं राजा ने आज्ञा दी है, तो अस्वीकार करने का प्रश्न ही नहीं उठता। राम यहाँ तीन कारण जोड़ते हैं: पिता की आज्ञा, पिता की प्रतिज्ञा की रक्षा, और कैकेयी ('तव') की प्रसन्नता ('प्रिय काम अर्थम्')। राम कैकेयी को यह अहसास दिलाते हैं कि उनका वन जाना केवल एक मजबूरी नहीं, बल्कि कैकेयी को सुखी देखने का उनका सचेत प्रयास भी है। यह राम की महानता है कि वे अपने वनवास को अपनी सौतेली माँ के लिए एक उपहार के रूप में प्रस्तुत कर रहे हैं।
