दिव्यैर्गुणैः शक्रसमो रामः सत्यपराक्रमः ।
इक्ष्वाकुभ्योऽपि सर्वेभ्यो ह्यतिरिक्तो विशांपते ॥ ॥२-२-२८॥
divyairguṇaiḥ śakrasamo rāmaḥ satyaparākramaḥ |
ikṣvākubhyo'pi sarvebhyo hyatirikto viśāṃpate ॥2-2-28॥
Translation
O Lord of the People (Dasharatha), Rama is equal to Indra in his divine virtues and possesses true valor. Indeed, he excels even all the (previous) kings of the Ikshvaku lineage.

हे प्रजानाथ (महाराज दशरथ)! सत्यपराक्रमी श्रीराम अपने दिव्य गुणों के कारण देवराज इन्द्र के समान हैं। इतना ही नहीं, वे समस्त इक्ष्वाकुवंशी राजाओं से भी (गुणों में) निश्चय ही बढ़कर हैं।
English Commentary
In this verse, the assembled kings and citizens provide King Dasharatha with a profound justification for their support of Rama. Addressing the King as Viśāṃpate (Lord of the Subjects), they elevate Rama's status beyond that of a mere prince. By comparing him to Shakra (Indra), they attribute to him divine administrative qualities and the capacity to protect the realm just as Indra protects the heavens. The epithet Satyaparakrama is significant; it implies that Rama's valor is not brute force, but power inextricably linked to Truth and Righteousness.
Furthermore, the assembly pays Rama the ultimate tribute by declaring him superior even to the ancestors of the Ikshvaku lineage. In a culture deeply respectful of tradition and ancestry, asserting that Rama excels beyond all previous kings of this solar dynasty serves to validate Dasharatha's choice absolute terms. It suggests that Rama represents the evolution and pinnacle of his lineage. The commentary underscores that the people saw in Rama a unique blend of divine grace and superior human leadership, making him the only logical choice for the throne.
