सा क्षौमवसना हृष्टा नित्यं व्रतपरायणा ।
अग्निं जुहोति स्म तदा मन्त्रवत् कृतमङ्गला ॥ ॥२-२०-१५॥
Sā kṣaumavasanā hṛṣṭā nityaṃ vrataparāyaṇā । Agniṃ juhoti sma tadā mantravat kṛtamaṅgalā ॥ ॥2-20-15॥
Translation
Wearing silk garments, joyful, and constantly devoted to vows, she, having performed auspicious rites, was offering oblations into the fire with the recitation of mantras.

नित्य व्रत-परायण रहने वाली कौसल्या, रेशमी वस्त्र धारण कर, प्रसन्नचित्त होकर और मांगलिक कृत्य करके मंत्रपूर्वक अग्नि में आहुति दे रही थीं।
English Commentary
Kausalya is dressed in kshauma (silk/linen), appropriate for sacred rituals. She is described as nityam vrataparayana (constantly dedicated to vows), indicating that her piety is a lifelong habit, not a momentary act. She is currently performing a homa (fire sacrifice) with proper Vedic mantras. Her happiness (hrishta) is born of maternal love and the expectation of the coronation. The imagery creates an atmosphere of sanctity and auspiciousness, which is about to be shattered by Rama's news.
