Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
प्रविश्य च तदा रामो मातुरन्तःपुरं शुभम् ।
ददर्श मातरं तत्र हावयन्तीं हुताशनम् ॥ ॥२-२०-१६॥
Praviśya ca tadā rāmo māturantaḥpuraṃ śubham । Dadarśa mātaraṃ tatra hāvayantīṃ hutāśanam ॥ ॥2-20-16॥
Translation
Entering his mother’s auspicious inner apartment, Rama saw his mother there, causing oblations to be offered into the fire.
हिंदी अनुवाद
तब राम ने माता के शुभ अंतःपुर में प्रवेश किया और वहां अपनी माता को अग्नि में आहुति दिलवाते हुए (हवन करते हुए) देखा।
English Commentary
Rama steps into the sanctum of his mother, described as shubham (auspicious/radiant). He finds her engaged in the act of offering to the fire god (Hutashana). The visual impact on Rama is profound: he sees the smoke, hears the mantras, and witnesses his mother's intense devotion aimed solely at his prosperity. He stands there knowing that he brings news that will render all these preparations void. It is a collision between the mother's hopeful prayers and the son's dutiful reality.

राम अपनी माता के कक्ष में प्रवेश करते हैं, जिसे 'शुभम्' (पवित्र/कल्याणकारी) कहा गया है। वहां का वातावरण यज्ञ के धुएं और मंत्रोच्चार से पवित्र है। राम देखते हैं कि माता 'हुताशनम्' (अग्नि) में आहुति दे रही हैं (स्वयं या पुरोहितों के माध्यम से)। राम के लिए यह दृश्य हृदय विदारक है—जिस पुत्र के लिए माता इतना बड़ा यज्ञ कर रही हैं, वही पुत्र उस यज्ञ को भंग करने और माता को सबसे बड़ा दुःख देने आया है। राम का संकोच और पीड़ा यहां कल्पनातीत है।
