देवकार्यनिमित्तं च तत्रापश्यत् समुद्यतम् ।
दध्यक्षतं घृतं चैव मोदकान् हविषस्तदा ॥ ॥२-२०-१७॥
Devakāryanimittaṃ ca tatrāpaśyat samudyatam । Dadhyakṣataṃ ghṛtaṃ caiva modakān haviṣastadā ॥ ॥2-20-17॥
Translation
He saw there the materials gathered for the purpose of divine worship: curd, unbroken rice (akshata), ghee, sweets (modakas), and oblations.

देवकार्य (पूजा) के निमित्त वहां जुटाई गई सामग्रियों को उन्होंने देखा—दही, अक्षत (चावल), घी, मोदक (लड्डू) और हविष्य (हवन सामग्री)।
English Commentary
Valmiki lists the specific items gathered for the ritual, grounding the scene in cultural reality. Dadhi (curd) and Akshata (unbroken rice) are auspicious staples in Hindu worship. Modakas (sweets) suggest a festive offering. Rama observes these details (samudyatam - kept ready), realizing the extent of the arrangements made for his success. Each item represents Kausalya’s care and expectation, adding weight to the burden Rama carries.
