कृत्येष्वचोदितः पित्रा सर्वस्यान्तःपुरस्य च ।
गतिर्यः शरणं चासीत् स रामोऽद्य प्रवत्स्यति ॥ ॥२-२०-२॥
Kṛtyeṣvacoditaḥ pitrā sarvasyāntaḥpurasya ca । Gatiryaḥ śaraṇaṃ cāsīt sa rāmo'dya pravatsyati ॥ ॥2-20-2॥
Translation
He who attended to the needs of the entire inner palace without being ordered by his father, and who was their refuge and shelter, that Rama is going into exile today.

जो पिता द्वारा आज्ञा न दिए जाने पर भी अंतःपुर के सभी कार्यों की चिंता करते थे, जो सबकी गति और शरण थे, वही राम आज वन को जा रहे हैं।
English Commentary
This verse elucidates why the queens are devastated. Rama was not merely a prince; he was the proactive caretaker of the household. The term acoditah (unprompted/unasked) is significant—it reveals that Rama performed duties and solved problems for the queens without waiting for instructions from the King. He was their gati (recourse) and sharanam (refuge). The queens realize that with Rama’s departure, they are losing their true protector. It highlights Rama’s emotional intelligence and his nature of service, showing that his leadership began at home through care, not just command.

यहां रनिवास की रानियों के विलाप का कारण स्पष्ट किया गया है। राम केवल राजा के पुत्र नहीं थे, बल्कि वे पूरे परिवार के अनकहे रक्षक थे। 'अचोदितः' (बिना कहे/प्रेरित किए बिना) शब्द अत्यंत महत्वपूर्ण है; यह दर्शाता है कि राम अपनी जिम्मेदारी समझने के लिए किसी आज्ञा की प्रतीक्षा नहीं करते थे। वे अंतःपुर की स्त्रियों की छोटी-बड़ी समस्याओं का समाधान स्वयं करते थे। रानियां रो रही हैं क्योंकि वे अपना आश्रय (शरण) खो रही हैं। यह राम के 'सौशील्य' गुण का परिचायक है—वे सबसे उच्च होकर भी सबकी सेवा के लिए तत्पर रहते थे।
