सत्यप्रतिज्ञं पितरं राजानं पश्य राघव ।
अद्यैव हि त्वां धर्मात्मा यौवराज्येऽभिषेक्ष्यति ॥ ॥२-२०-२४॥
Satyapratijñaṃ pitaraṃ rājānaṃ paśya rāghav । Adyaiva hi tvāṃ dharmātmā yauvarājye'abhiṣekṣyati ॥ ॥2-20-24॥
Translation
"O Raghava, go and see your father, the King, who is true to his promise. That righteous soul will consecrate you as Crown Prince this very day."

हे राघव! अपने सत्यप्रतिज्ञ पिता महाराज को देखो। वे धर्मात्मा आज ही तुम्हें युवराज के पद पर अभिषिक्त करेंगे।
English Commentary
This verse delivers the final blow of irony before the revelation. Kausalya confidently calls Dasharatha Satyapratijna (true to his vows) and Dharmatma (righteous soul). She urges Rama to see his father to receive the crown adyaiva (this very day). She relies on Dasharatha’s promise to her and the people. Tragically, Dasharatha is indeed being "true to his vow," but it is the fatal vow to Kaikeyi, not the one to Kausalya. This statement forces Rama to shatter his mother's faith in the immediate future, contrasting her hopeful illusion with the harsh reality of his father's "truth."

इस सर्ग का यह सबसे मर्मांतक (heartbreaking) श्लोक है। कौसल्या दशरथ को 'सत्यप्रतिज्ञ' (वचन का पक्का) और 'धर्मात्मा' कहती हैं। उनका अर्थ है कि राजा ने राम को गद्दी देने का वचन दिया है और वे इसे निभाएंगे। विडंबना यह है कि राजा वास्तव में 'सत्यप्रतिज्ञ' निकले, लेकिन राम के लिए नहीं, बल्कि कैकेयी के लिए। कौसल्या कहती हैं 'अद्यैव' (आज ही) अभिषेक होगा। राम के पास अब यह बताने के अलावा कोई चारा नहीं है कि पिता के 'सत्य' ने ही उनका राज्य छीन लिया है। यहां संवाद की पृष्ठभूमि पूरी तरह तैयार है—विस्फोट होने ही वाला है।
