Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
भरताय महा राजो यौवराज्यम् प्रयच्चति ।
माम् पुनर् दण्डक अरण्यम् विवासयति तापसम् ॥ ॥२-२०-३०॥
Bharatāya mahā rājo yauvarājyam prayacchati । Mām punar daṇḍaka araṇyam vivāśayati tāpasam ॥ ॥2-20-30॥
Translation
"The Great King is bestowing the office of Crown Prince upon Bharata, while he is banishing me to the Dandaka forest as an ascetic."
हिंदी अनुवाद
"महाराज (दशरथ) भरत को युवराज पद दे रहे हैं और मुझे तापस (तपस्वी) बनाकर दंडक वन में निर्वासित कर रहे हैं।"
English Commentary
Rama delivers the news objectively. He contrasts the fates of the two brothers: Yuvraja (Crown Prince) status for Bharata and Tapasam (ascetic life) in Dandaka for himself. By attributing this action to the Maharaja, Rama upholds his father’s authority to distribute his kingdom and dispense duties as he sees fit. There is a distinct lack of accusatory tone; he reports the transfer of power and his own banishment as connected decrees of the King.

राम इस श्लोक में तथ्यों को बिना किसी कड़वाहट के प्रस्तुत करते हैं। वे पिता को 'महाराज' कहते हैं, जो राजा के अधिकार को दर्शाता है। वह यह नहीं कहते कि "कैकेयी ने किया" या "मेरे साथ अन्याय हुआ", बल्कि वह इसे राजा का निर्णय बताते हैं। एक तरफ भरत का राज्याभिषेक और दूसरी तरफ राम का निर्वासन—इस विषमता को वह शांत भाव से बताते हैं। 'पुनर्' का प्रयोग यहाँ 'दूसरी ओर' या 'इसके विपरीत' के संदर्भ में है, जो नियति के खेल को दर्शाता है।
