Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
उपावृत्य उत्थिताम् दीनाम् वडवाम् इव वाहिताम् ।
पांशु गुण्ठित सर्व अग्नीम् विममर्श च पाणिना ॥ ॥२-२०-३४॥
Upāvṛtya utthitām dīnām vaḍavām iva vāhitām । Pāṃśu guṇṭhita sarva agnīm vimamarśa ca pāṇinā ॥ ॥2-20-34॥
Translation
When she regained consciousness and stood up, looking miserable like a mare overburdened with a load, and covered in dust all over her limbs, Rama gently brushed her with his hand.
हिंदी अनुवाद
होश में आने पर उठी हुई, बोझ ढोने वाली घोड़ी की तरह दीन, और धूल से सने हुए अंगों वाली माता को राम ने अपने हाथों से पोंछा (साफ किया)।
English Commentary
The imagery shifts from a goddess to a "mare overburdened with a load" (vadavam iva vahitam). This drastic change in metaphor signifies how quickly grief has stripped her of her royal aura, leaving her looking like a beast of burden crushed by destiny. She is covered in dust (pamshu gunthita), a sign of mourning and loss of dignity. Rama’s gesture of brushing the dust off her is an act of tender filial love, attempting to restore her dignity and comfort her physically.

यहाँ कौशल्या की तुलना 'वाहिताम् वडवाम्' (बोझ ढोने वाली घोड़ी) से की गई है। जैसे एक घोड़ी भारी बोझ से थककर गिर जाती है और धूल में सन जाती है, वैसे ही कौशल्या पुत्र-वियोग के दुख के बोझ से दब गई हैं। राजमहल की रानी धूल में सनी है। राम का अपने हाथों से धूल झाड़ना (विममर्श) उनके वात्सल्य और सेवा भाव को दिखाता है। यह स्पर्श केवल धूल हटाने के लिए नहीं, बल्कि सांत्वना देने के लिए भी है।
