अतः दुह्खतरम् किम् नु प्रमदानाम् भविष्यति ।
त्वयि सम्निहिते अपि एवम् अहम् आसम् निराक्Rता ॥ ॥२-२०-४०॥
Ataḥ duḥkhataram kim nu pramadānām bhaviṣyati । Tvayi samnihite api evam aham āsam nirākṛtā ॥ ॥2-20-40॥
Translation
"What could be more painful for women than this? Even while you were present here, I was rejected (and treated with disrespect)."
हिंदी अनुवाद
"स्त्रियों के लिए इससे अधिक दुखद और क्या होगा? तुम्हारे (यहाँ) उपस्थित रहने पर भी मैं इस प्रकार निरादृत (उपेक्षित) रही हूँ।"
English Commentary
Kausalya questions the depth of her misery. She points out a tragic irony: even with a powerful and virtuous son like Rama sannihite (present/nearby), she was nirakrita (slighted/rejected) by the King in favor of Kaikeyi. If her son's presence couldn't secure her dignity, his absence spells doom. It underscores her total dependence on Rama for social standing within the palace.

कौशल्या अपनी पीड़ा व्यक्त करती हैं कि राम के अयोध्या में रहते हुए भी, राजा दशरथ ने उन्हें वह सम्मान नहीं दिया जो मिलना चाहिए था। यह उनकी असहायता को दर्शाता है। एक समर्थ पुत्र के होते हुए भी यदि माँ का अनादर हो, तो यह उस माँ के लिए दुर्भाग्यपूर्ण है। अब जब राम जा रहे हैं, तो उनकी स्थिति की कल्पना करना ही भयावह है।
