Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
त्वयि सन्निहितेऽप्येवमहमासं निराकृता ।
किम् पुनः प्रोषिते तात ध्रुवम् मरणम् एव मे ॥ ॥२-२०-४१॥
Tvayi sannihite'pyevamahamāsam nirākṛtā । Kim punaḥ proṣite tāta dhruvam maraṇam eva me ॥ ॥2-20-41॥
Translation
"Even when you were near, I was rejected; how much more so when you are exiled? O dear one, death is indeed certain for me."
हिंदी अनुवाद
"हे तात! जब तुम्हारे पास होते हुए भी मैं इस प्रकार निरादृत रही, तो तुम्हारे परदेश (वन) चले जाने पर मेरा क्या हाल होगा? निश्चित ही मेरी मृत्यु हो जाएगी।"
English Commentary
This verse builds logically on the previous one. Kausalya extrapolates her future: if presence meant neglect, absence (proshite) means destruction. She foresees no survival strategy. The phrase dhruvam maranam (death is certain) is not just dramatic; it reflects her reality where she loses her only protector in a hostile court. She addresses Rama affectionately as Tata, emphasizing the personal bond that is being severed.

यह श्लोक पिछले विचार का विस्तार है। यहाँ 'प्रोषित' (प्रवास/विदेश गए हुए) शब्द महत्वपूर्ण है। कौशल्या निष्कर्ष निकालती हैं कि उनका जीवन अब समाप्त प्राय है। राम का वनवास उनके लिए केवल वियोग नहीं, बल्कि अस्तित्व का संकट है। 'ध्रुवम् मरणम्' (निश्चित मृत्यु) उनकी चरम हताशा को दिखाता है। वह मान चुकी हैं कि राम के बिना वह जीवित नहीं रह पाएंगी।
