Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
स्थिरम् हि नूनम् हृदयम् मम आयसम् ।
न भिद्यते यद् भुवि न अवदीर्यते ।
अनेन दुःखेन च देहम् अर्पितम् ।
ध्रुवम् हि अकाले मरणम् न विद्यते ॥ ॥२-२०-५१॥
Sthiram hi nūnam hṛdayam mama āyasam । Na bhidyate yad bhuvi na avadīryate । Anena duḥkhena ca deham arpitam । Dhruvam hi akāle maraṇam na vidyate ॥ ॥2-20-51॥
Translation
"Indeed, my heart must be made of iron, as it does not shatter, nor does the earth split open (to swallow me). Though my body is wracked by this sorrow, it is certain that death does not come before the appointed time."

"निश्चित ही मेरा हृदय लोहे (आयसम्) का बना है, जो (इतने आघात से भी) टुकड़े नहीं हो रहा और न ही यह धरती फट रही है (कि मैं उसमें समा जाऊँ)। इस दुख ने शरीर को जकड़ लिया है, किन्तु यह सत्य है कि अकाल (समय से पूर्व) मृत्यु नहीं आती।"
English Commentary
Kausalya moves from emotional outburst to a realization of cosmic law. She acknowledges that her heart is metaphorically made of iron (ayasam) to withstand such pressure without shattering. The phrase akale maranam na vidyate (death does not occur out of time) reflects the Hindu belief in Prarabdha—one cannot die until their allotted lifespan is consumed, regardless of the intensity of suffering.

कौशल्या एक दार्शनिक सत्य को स्वीकार करती हैं: 'अकाले मरणम् न विद्यते' (समय से पहले मृत्यु नहीं होती)। चाहे दुख कितना भी बड़ा हो, प्रारब्ध के अनुसार आयु शेष है तो जीव को कष्ट भोगना ही पड़ता है। वह अपने हृदय को 'आयसम्' (लोहे का) कहती हैं क्योंकि वह मांस का होता तो अब तक फट चुका होता। सीता के पाताल प्रवेश की तरह वह भी धरती के फटने की कामना करती हैं, पर वह भी नहीं होता।
