निर्मनुष्याम् इमाम् सर्वाम् अयोध्याम् मनुज ऋषभ ।
करिष्यामि शरैः तीक्ष्णैः यदि स्थास्यति विप्रिये ॥ ॥२-२१-१०॥
Nirmanuṣyām imām sarvām ayodhyām manuja ṛṣabha |
Kariṣyāmi śaraiḥ tīkṣṇaiḥ yadi sthāsyati vipriye ॥2-21-10॥
Translation
O best among men, if all of Ayodhya stands in opposition to you, I will make it devoid of humans with my sharp arrows.
हिंदी अनुवाद
हे पुरुषश्रेष्ठ! यदि यह पूरी अयोध्या आपके विपक्ष में खड़ी होगी, तो मैं अपने तीखे बाणों से इसे मनुष्य-शून्य (निर्जन) कर दूंगा।
English Commentary
This is one of the most violent proclamations by Lakshmana. He threatens to depopulate (nirmanuṣyām) the entire city of Ayodhya using his sharp arrows if the citizens or the collective stand against Rama's interest. This hyperbole underlines the intensity of his loyalty—he places Rama's well-being above the welfare of the state or its population. It reveals a singular focus: for Lakshmana, a world without justice for Rama is a world not worth preserving. He addresses Rama as Manuja Rishabha (Bull among men), urging him to claim his dominance.

लक्ष्मण का क्रोध अब चरम सीमा पर है। वे केवल शत्रुओं को ही नहीं, बल्कि पूरी अयोध्या नगरी को नष्ट करने की धमकी दे रहे हैं, यदि प्रजा या दरबारी राम के राज्याभिषेक में बाधा डालते हैं। 'निर्मनुष्याम्' (मनुष्यों से रहित) शब्द उनके प्रचंड रोष को दर्शाता है। उनके लिए राम का अधिकार और राम का सुख, राज्य और प्रजा के अस्तित्व से भी बढ़कर है। यह एक अत्यंत उग्र प्रतिज्ञा है जो यह दिखाती है कि अन्याय के सामने लक्ष्मण किसी भी मर्यादा को मानने के लिए तैयार नहीं हैं। उनके लिए राम ही एकमात्र धर्म हैं।
