मया पार्श्वे सधनुषा तव गुप्तस्य राघव ।
कः समर्थो अधिकम् कर्तुम् कृत अन्तस्य इव तिष्ठतः ॥ ॥२-२१-९॥
Mayā pārśve sadhanuṣa tava guptasya rāghava |
Kaḥ samartho adhikam kartum kṛta antasya iva tiṣṭhataḥ ॥2-21-9॥
Translation
O Raghava, when I stand by your side with my bow, protecting you like Death (Yama) himself, who is capable of doing anything against you?
हिंदी अनुवाद
हे राघव! जब मैं धनुष लेकर यमराज की भांति आपके पास (रक्षा हेतु) खड़ा रहूँगा, तब (शत्रु पक्ष का) कौन सा वीर क्या कर लेने में समर्थ हो सकेगा?
English Commentary
Lakshmana draws a terrifying comparison, likening himself to Kritanta (Death or Yama) when he holds his bow. He assures Rama that with such protection, no force on earth can oppose them. The imagery is meant to instill confidence in Rama and perhaps fear in Kausalya regarding the consequences if Rama doesn't act. Lakshmana views himself not just as a brother, but as the ultimate weapon of Rama’s defense. It emphasizes that the lack of action is not due to a lack of capability or power, but purely due to Rama's restraint. Lakshmana is ready to unleash total war to protect Rama's rights.

लक्ष्मण जी यहाँ अपने पराक्रम की तुलना साक्षात् 'कृतांत' (यमराज/काल) से करते हैं। वे राम को आश्वस्त कर रहे हैं कि यदि वे विद्रोह करते हैं, तो उन्हें किसी भी विरोध का सामना नहीं करना पड़ेगा क्योंकि लक्ष्मण उनके अंगरक्षक होंगे। 'अधिकम् कर्तुम्' का अर्थ है 'कुछ अनिष्ट करना' या 'विरोध करना'। लक्ष्मण का आत्मविश्वास इतना प्रबल है कि वे पूरी अयोध्या या भरत की सेना को अकेले रोकने का दम भरते हैं। यह श्लोक भाई के प्रति उनकी अटूट निष्ठा और क्षत्रिय तेज का परिचायक है। वे राम के लिए ढाल बनकर खड़े होने को तैयार हैं।
