Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
हरामि वीर्यात् दुह्खम् ते तमः सूर्यैव उदितः ।
देवी पश्यतु मे वीर्यम् राघवः चैव पश्यतु ॥२-२१-१८॥
harāmi vīryāt duhkham te tamaḥ sūryaiva uditaḥ |
devī paśyatu me vīryam rāghavaḥ caiva paśyatu ॥2-21-18॥
Translation
O Queen, just as the rising sun dispels darkness, I shall dispel your sorrow through my valor. Let Your Highness witness my power, and let Raghava (Rama) witness it as well.
हिंदी अनुवाद
हे देवी! जैसे उदित होता हुआ सूर्य अंधकार को हर लेता है, वैसे ही मैं अपने पराक्रम से आपके दुःख को हर लूंगा। आप मेरा पराक्रम देखें और राघव (राम) भी देखें।
English Commentary
This verse captures the essence of Lakshmana's martial spirit and his fierce protectiveness over Kausalya. Using the metaphor of the rising sun dispelling darkness, Lakshmana asserts that active valor, not passive acceptance, is the cure for his mother's grief. His declaration is addressed to both Kausalya and Rama, serving as a direct challenge to Rama’s decision to accept exile. Lakshmana wishes to demonstrate that 'Dharma' does not mean submission to injustice; rather, he believes that true duty lies in protecting one's rights and dignity through strength. It highlights the philosophical conflict between Rama’s ideal of obedience and Lakshmana’s ideal of retribution.

इस श्लोक में लक्ष्मण का क्षत्रिय तेज और अपनी माता (कौशल्या) के प्रति भक्ति प्रकट होती है। लक्ष्मण केवल सांत्वना नहीं दे रहे हैं, बल्कि वे स्थिति को बलपूर्वक बदलने के लिए तैयार हैं। सूर्य और अंधकार का रूपक (metaphor) अत्यंत प्रभावशाली है; यह दर्शाता है कि माता का दुःख अंधकार के समान है और लक्ष्मण का पौरुष प्रकाश के समान, जो उसे मिटाने में सक्षम है। लक्ष्मण यहाँ चुनौती के स्वर में बात कर रहे हैं—वे चाहते हैं कि राम भी उनकी शक्ति को देखें और यह समझें कि अन्याय को सहन करना धर्म नहीं है, बल्कि उसका प्रतिकार करना ही क्षत्रिय का धर्म है।
