न रोचते मम अपि एतत् आर्ये यद् राघवो वनम् ।
त्यक्त्वा राज्य श्रियम् गच्चेत् स्त्रिया वाक्य वशम् गतः ॥ ॥२-२१-२॥
Na rocate mama api etat ārye yad rāghavo vanam । Tyaktvā rājya śriyam gaccet striyā vākya vaśam gataḥ ॥ ॥2-21-2॥
Translation
"O Noble Lady (Arye)! I too do not like this at all—that Raghava should abandon the fortune of the kingdom and go to the forest, falling under the control of a woman's words."

"हे आर्ये! मुझे भी यह बिल्कुल अच्छा नहीं लग रहा (रुचिकर नहीं है) कि राघव राज्य-लक्ष्मी का त्याग करके, केवल एक स्त्री (कैकेयी) के वचनों के वश में होकर वन को जाएं।"
English Commentary
Lakshmana voices his dissent forcefully. Addressing Kausalya as Arye, he validates her grief by sharing his own disapproval (na rocate). He boils the situation down to a singular failure: Rama obeying a command that stems merely from striya vakya (a woman's words/command). Lakshmana views this not as filial obedience, but as a submission to unjust manipulation, rejecting the idea that Kaikeyi’s whims should override the kingdom's welfare.

लक्ष्मण का क्रोध फूट पड़ता है। वह स्पष्ट कहते हैं 'न रोचते' (मुझे पसंद नहीं)। उनका तर्क है कि एक स्त्री (कैकेयी) के कहने पर इतना बड़ा निर्णय लेना अनुचित है। यहाँ 'स्त्रिया वाक्य वशम् गतः' (स्त्री के वचनों के वश में) वाक्यांश दशरथ की आलोचना है कि उन्होंने राजधर्म को स्त्री-हठ के सामने झुका दिया। लक्ष्मण इसे धर्म नहीं, बल्कि कमजोरी मानते हैं।
